Maketis is pleased to present its new Easy Module Helix Ø118 cm (MOD80000), specially designed for HO scale layouts.

With a footprint of 118 cm in diameter, it allows you to connect several levels in a limited space. The width of its platform has been designed to accommodate a double track, but it can also be used for a single track plus a siding or storage track.

A complex carpentry piece, now accessible

The helix is highly coveted by modellers because it opens the way to multi-level model railway layouts. Yet, it remains one of the most difficult carpentry elements to build yourself. Between radius calculations, ideal slope, track alignment, measuring and cutting, many modellers have abandoned or ended up with disappointing results. Maketis took up the challenge to offer a reliable, ready-to-use solution, allowing you to enjoy multiple levels on your layout without technical constraints.

An essential tool to connect your levels

With its 118 cm diameter, the helix offers a controlled slope (2.6% outer track / 2.9% inner track). The clear height between two levels is 82 mm, allowing HO electric locomotives to run with pantographs raised. It overcomes significant height differences without curve breaks or dangerous transitions. Please note that the Helix can be installed and used in both directions (clockwise or anti-clockwise ascent/descent).

Available from 1 to 6 turns (90 mm per turn), it adapts to all projects:

  • 1 turn = 90 mm (limited use, insufficient to pass under a standard module)
  • 4 turns = 360 mm (versatile version, best suited to the Easy Module range)
  • 6 turns = 540 mm (for ambitious multi-level layouts)

Innovative and robust design

Unlike threaded rod helixes (long adjustments, stress on the platform), our helix uses vertical wooden posts with mortise-and-tenon assembly. This design ensures quick and easy assembly, long-term stability and smooth operation, even with long trains or locomotives without traction tyres. Made from 8 mm MDF precisely machined.

Track compatibility – safer installation

The helix is designed to directly accommodate curved track sections from the following manufacturers:

  • RocoLine: R4 (481 mm) / R5 (543 mm)
  • Piko: R3 (484 mm) / R4 (546 mm)
  • Tillig Elite: R31 (484 mm) / R41 (543 mm)
  • Tillig Standard: R31 (490 mm) / R41 (545 mm)

For track laying, we strongly recommend curved track sections for a quick and reliable installation. Flexible track requires very careful joints on curves and may cause breaks or derailments.

Easy assembly & video support

Delivered as a complete kit (platforms, posts, feet, screws, instructions), the helix is easy to assemble. A video tutorial on our YouTube channel shows the assembly process and provides useful tips for laying the track.

Perfect integration with Easy Module

The MOD80000 helix fits directly on the MOD71000 support and all Easy Module standard modules. It can be used either as a link between levels or as a central element of a modular structure. Note: 1 to 2 turns are not sufficient to create a lower level under a standard module.

For optimal connections at entry and exit, we also offer a dedicated connection set (MOD63000).
