Also known by their running number X3800 or their nickname "Picasso", these railcars were built in 251 units and operated from 1950 to 1988. Used in all regions of the SNCF and still in childhood memories of many of us, they are a logical bridge between the steam and the TGV eras. To the delight of enthusiasts, their simple design and reliability have enabled some twenty samples to be preserved by various fans associations which still operate them today.

The chosen prototype belongs to the series manufactured by Renault at Choisy-le-Roi and equipped with the 517G engine.
Reference 3800-02 - registered X 3868 - Original version with corner lanterns and horizontal railing on the front face, red and cream livery, Commissioned on 16/9/1952 at Fives, DOUAI 3/10/1954, Nice 27/5/1958, Lyon-Vaise 26/7/1963, Chalon 13/6/1968, Lyon-Vaise 1/10/1970. Struck off on 9/12/1976 in Lyon-Vaise.
