Decapod solvent acrylics are intended for airbrush or spray application. However, they can also be used with a brush for localized touch-ups. It is a quick-drying paint that forms a very thin film and adheres particularly well to plastics and metals.

They are supplied pre-diluted in a practical, sturdy plastic bottle containing a mixing ball. Depending on your application conditions, you will need to adjust the viscosity by filling the jar with thinner Ref. DP8000.

For cleaning your tools, you can use the same thinner or more simply acetone.

WARNING:

Thinner Ref. DP8000 is the only thinner that Decapod unreservedly recommends: the team has tested many other products and depending on the case, you may be exposed to risks of degradation or destruction of Decapod varnishes and paints.

* Choose a brick colour :

The "Red Brick" shade is the most common brick colour, which can be used as your default base. You can of course modify it as you wish by adding a little "orange brick" or "dark brick" colour to slightly vary the appearance from one construction to another.

Modern bricks, but also hollow bricks, are often lighter than older designs. The colour "orange brick" is a good basis for reflecting this aspect.

In some regions, the brick is darker and tends towards burgundy: In this case, the "Dark Brick" colour is a good base.

* Choose a concrete colour:

The "New Cement" shade is the colour of new or well-maintained concrete.

Over time, the concrete will develop a slight patina and its colour will warm up, even when it remains clean. The "Old cement" colour allows you to have a different base than new cement to achieve this effect.

* Choose a plaster colour :

There are as many yellow plasters as there are masons, but the "Yellow Plaster" colour is pretty without being flashy, and is therefore a good choice.

* Choose a roof colour :

"Orange mechanical tile: This beautiful orange colour is perfect to evoke the old mechanical tile roofs, especially the Flemish ones that are found a lot in the north of France. It has fallen victim to the regulations of many municipalities who wanted to ban it out of modernism, but it is now coming back into fashion! You can modify it by mixing it with the red mechanical tile colour to bring a little contrast between the buildings.

"Red mechanical tile: This is the basic colour of the most common mechanical tiles, which can also be used for brick. However, the Decapod tint is matched to its brick colours to maintain contrast. You can vary the aspects within a group of buildings by changing the shade to orange or brown by mixing with the other Decapod references.

"Brown mechanical tile": Recently installed mechanical tiles are often of this colour, as some municipalities banned orange tiles at one time! This is a base, which can be lightened or darkened to vary the appearance within the same block of houses.

"Slate": This is a very dark blue colour which evokes the appearance of certain slates, very pleasing to the eye. Of course, this is a base that you can skate and modify with each building to vary the aspects within a paté of houses.

"Flat Tile": This shade is more brownish in colour than mechanical tiles and will be perfect for flat tiles. Of course, this is a base that we advise you to modify slightly with each building to vary the aspects.

* Choose a zinc colour :

"Old zinc: Old zinc, when it has been exposed to the weather for a long time, is porous and brittle, and is also very clear. You can use this colour on its own, or in veils over a zinc-coloured primer.

"Zinc-plated steel": This is the colour of steel structures protected by zinc plating. As in reality, the Decapod colour is very different from the light rustproof grey and you can make the two appear together on a signal, for example, with the correct contrast.

"Zinc": This is the colour of the zinc used, for example, for gutters and gutter downspouts, when the metal is already patinated (new zinc is silver!), but not yet porous and brittle (and old zinc colour).

* Choose a colour for the railway environment:

"Light anti-rust grey: This grey is used on all signals, electrical cabinets, metal doors, etc... It is omnipresent!

"Dark anti-rust grey": This very dark grey was used on many railway structures (signals, engineering structures, etc.) before gradually being replaced by a lighter grey. As in reality, the Decapod colour is slightly metallic so as to give a glittery effect.

"Rail/Light rust": This is the colour of the surface rust, which has recently formed.

"Rail/Dark Rust: This colour is perfect to evoke the colour of the rails of a main track, as well as old rust. In the case of a completely rusted metal structure, you can apply a primer coat and then return in places with light rust veils.

"Moss green (RAL 6005)": This is the green that is actually used to paint most modern fences: fences, railings, gates, but also mailboxes in private homes for example. Although it is omnipresent, it has not been available for model making until now...

"Brown sleeper": This brown is a perfect base for painting your wooden sleepers. To vary the appearance from one sleeper to another, you can give it a dry brush-on patina with a light grey for example.
